About Douglas

Founded in 1970, Douglas is a post-secondary institution near Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. We have major campuses in New Westminster and Coquitlam and a Training Centre in Surrey.

Douglas offers Bachelor’s degrees, associate degrees, post-degree and graduate diplomas, general university-transfer courses in the arts, sciences and business, as well as career programs in health care, human services (Child, Family and Community Studies), business, and creative arts.

Students

Every year, about 14,000 students take for-credit courses at Douglas, while close to 10,000 more take short-term, non-credit courses for career or personal development.

Douglas is also a popular choice for international students- every year, Douglas welcomes more than 1,500 students from China, South Korea, India, Japan and many other countries.

Accessibility is a source of pride. This means students with disabilities get the support they need to pursue their educational goals. It also means that Douglas welcomes students who need to upgrade their skills. The College offers upgrading in English and Mathematics, plus learning and study skills.

Faculty and staff

Douglas has 430 faculty members (plus 50 part-time, contract faculty members) who bring academic rigor and real-world experience to the classroom. They are focused on teaching and on helping students reach their academic and career goals.

Outside the classroom, over 415 staff and administrators help create a friendly, supportive environment.

Continuing education and short-term training

Douglas offers hundreds of short-term, high-quality courses, programs and workshops via Continuing Education and The Training Group. Just a few of the areas covered by these two groups are business, music, health, perinatal, career development, industry training and more.

Sports and recreation

Extensive recreation and wellness opportunities allow every student to keep their body and mind fit. There are well-equipped fitness centres, intramural teams, and drop-in classes in dance, yoga, aerobics and much more. Douglas also has a number of strong varsity teams. How to apply

International students

Looking to study at Douglas? Applying is the first step!

If you think you’re ready, fill out an Application for Admission Form (pdf).

To complete your application, you’ll need to provide some personal information and educational history, choose a program that interests you (even if it’s just general studies) and pay an application fee. Don’t forget to look and make sure you meet the admission requirements. Not sure what to pick? Don’t worry, the contact GES staff can help you in the right direction.

Along with your application form, you’ll need to submit the following:

  • Original high school transcript (equivalent to the Province of British Columbia grades 11-12) and proof of graduation if under 19 years old
  • Original college or university transcripts (if applicable)
  • Proof of English proficiency
  • $100 CAD non-refundable application fee

Please note: Transcripts and graduation diplomas must be notarized and include an English translation if they are in a different language. The translation must be done by a certified translator.

Next steps

Once your application package has been received, you will receive the following documents in the mail:

  • Conditional offer letter
  • Confirmation of acceptance form
  • Payment forms: bank transfer authorization or credit card authorization form

Douglas will also request tuition payment for the first semester.

Once payment has been received, Douglas will send you an official letter of acceptance, which you will need to apply for your entry visa and study permit at the Canadian Consulate nearest you.

Once payment and all documentation have been received, you’ll be assigned a time to register for courses.

Note: The application process could take between four to six months. Please notify us at care@india-ges.com  as soon as you receive your study permit/student visa.
